Abstract

In this paper we present a new method for co-scheduling periodic and aperiodic messages sent over the Controller Area Network (CAN). The method uses Earliest Deadline First scheduling, which allows higher utilization of the network than using CANs native fixed-priority scheduling approach. Deadlines of hard realtime periodic messages are guaranteed, and by using Constant Bandwidth Servers fairness and a bound on message delivery of the aperiodic messages are provided.
